Tumut is located on the Snowy Mountains Highway, approximately 500 kilometres north/east from Melbourne and approximately 400 kilometres south/west from Sydney.
The 5.0ML reservoir is within forest land, on the south west outskirts of Tumut. The reservoir was required to upgrade services to existing residents and the expansion of a new housing sub-division.
Tenders were called for the design & construction of the new reservoir, the tender was open to the option of either a steel reservoir, pre-stressed reservoir, post-tensioned reservoir or reinforced concrete reservoir. All options were to include a roof structure capable of withstanding the weight of 200mm of snow loading.
Our Post-Tensioned option proved to be the better tender. The construction sequence consisted of a single pour post-tensioned floor slab, precast wall units, post-tensioned both vertically and horizontally and an Aluminum roof to complete the structure.
